Pranayama is essential in yoga, just like physical exercises (asanas) and regular meditation (dhyana). Why? Conscious breathing plays a crucial role in your overall system, because your breath, prana, is your life energy. Your breathing can have a direct effect on your body and your psyche. Stress, excessive demands and tension can cause you to breathe incorrectly, which means you are not supplying your body with enough oxygen, which can lead to feelings of exhaustion. By learning pranayama, we help you to control your breathing better and more mindfully, thereby activating your life energy.
